Centering Survivor Voices: APAIT/SSG Contributes to Survivor-Informed Research on the Illicit Massage Industry
Ahead of Human Trafficking Awareness Day, APAIT/SSG was honored to contribute to a survivor-informed research study released by The Network Group, Inc. focused on the illicit massage industry — one of the most widespread yet least understood forms of sex trafficking in the United States.
The study centers the lived experiences of women directly impacted by the industry, highlighting the urgent need for language access, immigration stability, economic security, legal clarity, and trusted, culturally informed outreach services.
Developed through direct outreach with women across multiple states, the research shifts the conversation away from enforcement alone and instead asks a critical question: What happens to the women? Their stories reveal the complex barriers survivors face when seeking safety, stability, and long-term support.
As an organization committed to trauma-informed and culturally responsive care, APAIT/SSG is proud to support efforts that uplift survivor voices and advocate for services rooted in dignity, trust, and community care.
We are grateful to the survivors, consultants, and partner organizations who made this work possible, including Garden of Hope, Reset180, The WellHouse, Into the Light, and The Network Group, Inc.
